Objectifs

Semesters 1 and 2 aim at giving students a thorough knowledge of the private and public aspects of international and European legal issues.
The programme offers a comparative perspective, focuses on methodology with a view to providing the students with the tools needed to hold positions as lawyers in an international and European context.
A study trip to Brussels is organised for students to discover the European Institutions.

Semesters 3 and 4 provide a research degree in Comparative and European Private International Law (CEPIL). The programme is entirely taught in English and was set up in 2011 by a cooperation agreement between Université Toulouse 1 Capitole and the University of Dundee in Scotland. This programme is a double degree giving students the chance to graduate both with a Master 2 and an LL.M (Latin Legum Magister). The French Master’s is issued after spending the first semester at Université Toulouse 1 Capitole and the LL.M after the second semester at University of Dundee. The LL.M certificate is awarded during a graduation ceremony at the University of Dundee.

This type of programme remains rare in France and provides the cross competences, reflexes, methodology and knowledge that are necessary to the internationalisation and europeanisation of private law cases and regulations. The LL.M is a globally recognised degree, particularly in English-speaking countries. One of the requirements to graduate is a short thesis in English, according to the regulations of the University of Dundee.

Selection criteria
The admission committee will assess your application based on academic results, English proficiency, personal experiences (international and/or professional) and motivation.

The application file must mainly consists in detailed academic CV and grade records and a motivation letter.
French applicants will have to demonstrate their English proficiency.
French applicants must have sufficient skills in English to attend class in Toulouse and Dundee.
Any academic or internationally admitted certificate with a level B2 (or equivalent) is welcome (DULS, BULATS, TOEFL, TOEIC...).

For candidates holding a French diploma, the application period will be open from April 27 until May 26, 2020 (no application will be accepted beyond this period) :

Applications will have to include, in any case and imperatively, the following documents :
- Copy of ID or passport
- Official transcipts of records and diplomas/certificates
- Cover letter
- CV
- Proof of English proficiency i.e. official exam certificate (TOEFL, TOEIC, IELTS, etc.), proof of studies in an English speaking country...

Note that other specific documents might be required at the time of application.

A selection interview might also take place at some point, either for all the candidates or only for those pre-selected in view of the sent documents.

Registration fees :
1st year : 3000 €, no matter the candidate's nationality
2nd year : 6000 €

LL.M ‘s thesis :
The student must write a research thesis in English. The topics will be chosen from a list made by the University of Dundee in association with UT1. This thesis has to be submitted by August according to the examination rules at the University of Dundee. This work does not lead to an oral defence.
A professional internship is still possible but optional.

Preparation to access the labour market workshops are set up and hold by the SUIO-IP:
- Making of professional project: highlighting ones experiences; identifying ones strengths; building ones project.
- Techniques for hunting a job: CV, applications letters, preparation to interviews.
- Student exchange: CV, Motivation letter and interview in English, application in Spanish.
- Making of Skills Portfolio (Portefeuille d’Expériences et de Compétences) through the online platform PEC.

Short lectures and job days about varied topics are set up all along the year: “How to hunt for an internship”; “The keys for successful first steps into a firm”,…

A Master day (1st and 2nd years of master) is set up by the SUIO-IP every year, and takes place in the University Great Hall. All the masters are represented by the teachers and the current class students. The date will be known on the University website and on the notice boards.
