This course is a re-shaped version of previous Master CEPIL, and is a 2 year program entirely taught in English.
This programme covers conflict of laws principles in cross-border cases, international jurisdictions, litigation rules and arbitration with a view to providing the students with the tools needed to hold positions as lawyers in an international and European firms.
This type of programme is a rare opportunity in France providing the cross competences, reflexes, methodology and knowledge that are necessary to the internationalisation and europeanisation of private law cases and regulations. The LLM is a globally recognised degree, particularly in English-speaking countries.
Enjeux
Semesters 1 and 2 aim at giving students a thorough knowledge of the private and public aspects of international and European legal issues.
The programme offers a comparative perspective, focuses on methodology with a view to providing the students with the tools needed to hold positions as lawyers in an international and European context.
Semester 3 and 4 aim at giving students a high level of proficiency in Private International Law.
Spécificités
There are 2 tracks for semester 4:
- Local track (Université Toulouse Capitole)
- International Mobility track (Universiy of Dundee - 20 seats)
Students who opt for International Mobility will thus obtain both a French Master's diploma and the LL.M. (Latin Legum Magister) under two cumulative conditions: the validation of semester 3 in Toulouse and the mandatory semester 4 in Dundee. The LLM certificate is awarded during a graduation ceremony at the University of Dundee.
Students who opt for Local track will obtain the French Master's diploma only.

CRITERIAS FOR THE FIRST YEAR OF THE MASTER
Admission to the first year of the Master's programme depends on the number of seats available and is subject to an examination of the candidate's file.
Required diplomas:
- hold a Law degree obtained in France OR a foreign degree in a legal discipline equivalent to 180 ECTS, i.e. Bachelor's degree, Licence or equivalent
- Qualifications in other disciplines worth 180 ECTS minimum OR have significant professional experience in the field of the LL.M.'s programme applied for. Communication skills:
- Proven knowledge of English (minimum B2, C1 for a mobility to Dundee)
CRITERIAS FOR THE SECOND YEAR OF THE MASTER
Admission to the first year of the Master's programme depends on the number of seats available and is subject to an examination of the candidate's file.
Required diplomas: - Successful completion of the 1st year of a Master’s degree in Law obtained in France OR a foreign degree in a legal discipline equivalent to 240 ECTS. - Qualifications in other disciplines equivalent to 240 ECTS OR significant professional experience in some of the subjects taught on the course may also be considered. Communication skills:
- Proven knowledge of English (minimum C1)
CRITERIAS FOR BOTH YEARS
Academics:
- A solid grounding in the fundamental areas of public and private law.
- Have an excellent academic record and an awareness of international and/or European issues
Skills:
- Ability to express yourself clearly orally and in writing in academic and legal English.
- Ability to work both in groups and individually.
- Ability to work independently and use legal documentation.
- Ability to use complex legal reasoning and a wide range of sources and knowledge.
Experience (non-cumulative conditions):
- Evidence of voluntary or community work experience and/or
- International experience (travel, study, training) and/or
- Experience in legal practice (internship, moot court, etc.)
Communication skills:
- Ability to write essays and dissertations in English
- Ability to read extensive or complex texts in English
- Ability to speak English fluently (presentations, seminar discussions, class participation)
Project motivation and coherence:
Alignment of the degree with the applicant's career goals and/or plans for personal and professional development.
Programme
The first three semesters are spent at UT Capitole. During the fourth semester, students have the opportunity to study at the University of Dundee or stay at UT Capitole.

Module 6 - LL.M thesis
The student must write a research thesis in English. The topics will be chosen from a list established by the University of Dundee in association with UT Capitole. This thesis has to be submitted by August according to the examination rules at the University of Dundee (no oral defence is required).
A professional internship is still possible but optional.

Skills:
The teachings during the entire Program pave the way to European and international careers, or employment requiring to manage different situations connected with international and European law. Students are encouraged to develop initiatives in order to bring out skills in organisation, communication and exchanges, which are essential for any legal practitioner who works in a team, with potential partners from all around the world, international organisations, firms or universities. The exchange during the second semester is a chance for developing the abilities of adaptation and communication in an international context.
